About Tatte Bakery & Cafe
From a single kitchen in Boston to a beloved tatte bakery community — discover the passion, people, and principles behind every handcrafted bite and carefully poured cup.
A Dream Baked Into Reality
Tatte was born from a lifelong love of baking and a belief that food has the power to bring people together. Founded in 2007 in Boston's vibrant South End, our founder Tzurit Or set out to create a place that felt like a warm, welcoming home — where every pastry tells a story and every cup of coffee is made with intention.
The name Tatte — meaning "father" in Yiddish — honors family, heritage, and the warmth of a home kitchen. From day one, we've been committed to the idea that great food starts with honest ingredients, skilled hands, and genuine care for our community.
Today, Tatte bakery operates across multiple locations in the greater Boston area, but our soul remains rooted in that same original spirit: handcrafted, heartfelt, and always made for you.

Our Journey Through the Years
From a home kitchen experiment to one of Boston's most beloved cafe brands — every chapter of our story was written one pastry at a time.
The First Kitchen
Tzurit Or begins baking in her home kitchen, selling pastries at Boston farmers markets. The response is overwhelming — neighbors line up before dawn to get their hands on her signature rugelach and babka.
First Brick-and-Mortar Opens
Tatte bakery opens its first official cafe in Boston's South End neighborhood. The intimate space seats just 30 guests, but the warmth and pastry quality quickly earns a loyal following and rave reviews.
Expanding to Cambridge
A second location opens near Harvard Square in Cambridge, introducing Tatte to the university community. The all-day breakfast and brunch menu becomes an instant hit with students and faculty alike.
Partnership & Growth
Tatte partners with One Better Ventures to accelerate thoughtful growth across Greater Boston. Three new locations open, and the team grows to over 100 dedicated bakers, baristas, and hospitality professionals.
Catering & Corporate Programs Launch
Tatte launches its full-service catering division, bringing handcrafted pastries and breakfast spreads to corporate offices, weddings, and special events throughout the Boston area.
National Recognition
Tatte bakery is named one of the best bakeries in the United States by multiple national food publications. Our signature shakshuka and open-faced sandwiches become widely celebrated across the food world.
